Game Changer – Bong Guerrero

Fashion Catalyst

Bong Guerrero - Illustrado 300 Most Influential Filipinos in the Gulf
@shotbylucasalves

Bong Guerrero came to the UAE in 1990 with promising potential and an appetite to develop great projects and brands. He founded his first events company in 1999, initially producing and managing corporate events, product launches, as well as projects that helped catalyze the now booming fashion scene in Dubai. Today, Bong is the Managing Partner of BRAG – a prominent events agency in the region that also provides creative services – and CEO of Fashion Forward Dubai (FFWD) – the region’s seasonal landmark fashion event showcasing the industry’s best designers and creatives.

Having worked alongside an impressive roster of high-profile clients like Kenzo, Jimmy Choo, Mercedes Benz, Netflix, as well as the best fashion houses in the region and beyond, Bong has developed an impressive body of work that will undeniably continue to grow and diversify. Some of the recent standout events organized by BRAG include Enrique Iglesias @ The Pointe, Dua Lipa @ The Pointe, and WASLA Music Festival 2019. Bong has also steered FFWD into the direction of managing turnkey events for the fashion, beauty, and luxury industries, as well as e-commerce – allowing fashion enthusiasts to buy clothes straight off the runway.

Turning every challenging circumstance into a fruitful opportunity, Bong, like most entrepreneurs, has experienced the paralyzing fear of projects not succeeding – but has not let this fear inhibit him in any of his undertakings. He expresses that, despite the roadblocks along the way, when you have a great team, good ethics, and a focused vision that inspires you to work hard, then one can do anything.

Bong Guerrero – Most Influential Filipinos in the Gulf 2018

Entrepreneur

Nobody has probably done anything as impactful for the fashion industry in the UAE, and perhaps even the entire region, as much as society icon Bong Guerrero.  Widely acknowledged as ‘the’ country’s fashion catalyst – Bong’s work as CEO & Co-founder of FFWD (Fashion Forward) has catapulted Dubai into global consciousness as the region’s fashion capital.  FFWD has provided a platform to bolster homegrown brands and has brought international industry leaders, talents, and media into the City of Gold to what has become the region’s definitive seasonal fashion event.  As Managing Partner of BRAG, he has also been at the forefront of significant events for luxury brands around the country.

Recognized as one of Esquire Magazine Middle East’s 100 in 2018, Bong shares of 2018, “The year has been very exciting on many levels. BRAG has continued its focus on large-scale community events as well as other corporate events, while FFWD has uniquely positioned itself to focus on providing streamlined turnkey event solutions for the fashion, beauty, and luxury industries in Dubai and the Middle East. Fenty Beauty by Rihanna, Jimmy Choo, YSL Beauty, Kenzo, Farfetch, NARS, Dolce & Gabbana among others are some of the clients that we have created experiences for in the last year.  Moving ahead, we plan to continue to expand this portfolio as well as come back with some exciting plans for Fashion Forward.”

Beyond the glamour of Dubai’s style and luxe world, Bong believes in optimist and goodness as critical traits that allow one to get ahead.  He remarks, “Positivity begets positivity. I have always believed in turning any challenging situation into an opportunity, by focusing on the good that may come out of it. All is well, that ends well.  This in addition to being a fundamentally good person, and most importantly doing your work with authenticity, love, and passion.”

“I would like to remind people to focus on doing the work that they enjoy – when you love what you do, you will succeed at it – and when you succeed at it, you will love it even more. Challenges are inevitable, but it’s how you react to them that will determine the end result. It’s a virtuous circle of positivity.”

100 Most Influential Filipinos in the Gulf 2017: Bong Guerrero – Entrepreneur and Industry Catalyst.

100 MIFG: Bong Guerrero - Entrepreneur and Industry Catalyst

A true Dubai society icon, entrepreneur, and fashion industry catalyst Bong Guerrero underlines happiness as a state of mind that is central to his success.  “For me, it’s always important to be happy.  To live simply.  I’m quite simple in my way of living.  I don’t need much.  As long as I’m happy with what I’m doing, who I’m with, the people I interact with, and I get a lot of joy in my work, that’s what’s important.”

And ‘simple’ could easily be the uber understatement of the year when speaking about the man’s accomplishments which have made an indelible mark and steered the trajectory of the local fashion industry to international heights.  As Co-Founder of FFWD and Brag Events, Bong has been at the helm not only of the definitive seasonal style event in the UAE which has put the Middle East in the global fashion map.  He was also part of the beginnings of the careers of several elite designers including Furne One, Ezra Santos, and Rami Al Ali, among others.  The fact that his projects are well known in the fields of luxury and corporate events is mere icing on the cake.

Still, despite being the leading man in the glamorous world he moves in, Bongs shares that his true vocation lies in being a creative force behind the events that brought out the finest in people. He says that his upbringing in Ateneo de Manila has deeply ingrained in him the value of living for others.  He shares, “Be a man for others.  Because when you do good things for others, it always comes back to you.”

Most Influential Filipinos in the Gulf 2016: Bong Guerrero, Trailblazer

 BONG GUERRERO

Founder and CEO – Fashion Forward (FFWD); Managing Partner at Brag Events

As Founder and CEO of Fashion Forward (FFWD) – Dubai’s most prestigious fashion industry event, and Managing Partner at Brag Events, the Alpha male of the Dubai style scene, Bong Guerrero has not only carved a name for himself as an entrepreneur: he has transformed himself into a true society icon. With over 25 years of experience in the Gulf, Bong’s expertise in the field of events management, concert production, and fashion is difficult to match. And in 2016, he helped orchestrate a major evolution in the Fashion Forward brand – moving the venue of the shows from Madinat, Jumeirah to d3. More than just a change of space, the move signifies an enhanced focus on marrying the concept of sustainability with the fashion industry.

In an earlier interview with Illustrado, this notable Filipino sums up his simple philosophy, “I enjoy the work that I do. I truly love what I do, and I’m very passionate about what I do. I’d like to think that [passion] brings out some kind of creativity.”

Most Influential Filipinos in the Gulf 2015: Bong Guerrero – Dubai’s Fashion Catalyst

Bong Guerrero – Photo by Eros Goze

Bong Guerrero has succeeded in an area where so many have tried and failed in previous years.

As Founder and CEO of Brag Events – creators of Fashion Forward, he has successfully facilitated Dubai’s aspiration to build a credible fashion industry event that is not only supported by local and regional businesses, but is also respected by its other stakeholders – from the media to buyers, to the discerning and voracious fashion crowd in the country.

Having spent 25 years in the country, his local history can and will always be connected to the growth of fashion and the fashionable crowd in the emirates. From heading one of the first prestigious couture houses in Dubai – Ghanati – the birthplace of quite a few of the leading haute couture designers, to being an event organizer par excellence managing glamorous projects for international brands and practically starting up the city’s clubbing culture, Bong has always been surrounded by the movers and shakers, socialites, business magnates and royalty.

His engagement with fashion seem to have escalated when he organized the first game-changing runway show of high street brand Splash in 2007 – something totally unheard of back in the day. From then on, there was no turning back. After 15 fashion shows for Splash, numerous commercial events for an enviable roster of international luxury brands, and the birth of Fashion Forward now on its 6th season back in 2013, Bong’s reputation as Dubai’s veritable fashion catalyst has been cemented.

Indeed, Bong Guerrero’s shift from legendary party ‘machinator’ to the brains and brawn behind the definitive fashion platform for Dubai and the entire Middle East was not only a much needed shot in the arm to the previously flailing niche, but also a spectacular feat of professional success. In an earlier interview with Illustrado, this notable Filipino sums up his simple philosophy, “I enjoy the work that I do. I truly love what I do, and I’m very passionate about what I do. I’d like to think that [passion] brings out some kind of creativity.”

Bong Guerrero – The Elusive Life of the Party

Profile published Illustrado Magazine 2010,  Story by Sherry Tenorio

His name probably doesn’t ring a bell.  That is, if you’re just a regular Joe or a plain Jane – an “anonymous” in the city of gold’s glitzy party scene.  He’s made quite a reputation in privileged circles by being at the heart of the emirates’ glamorous events – creator, instigator and life of the party all at once, constantly surrounded by Dubai’s beautiful and influential A-listers.  As a matter of fact, sans exaggeration, you’ve got to be somebody special if you are part of the life of a certain Bong Guerrero.

Bong Guerrero cuts an image of quiet self-assurance in the midst of the “bling” and bacchanalian euphoria that usually characterizes his legendary events.  The man has quite a presence, one that is relaxed and confidently devoid of pretense – particularly refreshing especially in a world where the well-heeled and powerful coexist with poseurs, social climbers, aspiring models, the fickle fashion crowd, et al.  You would know it when Bong is running the show, because there would always be that perceptible slight shift of gravity when he appears. Though there is a price to be paid for being a significant player in such rarefied field. It is entirely conceivable why people have a number of things to say about who he is – without really knowing what he’s all about.

Bong Guerrero lives a covetable life – a life that is one huge party. As an events guru, he personifies a glamorous existence where five star hotels, champagne and fancy cars are just plain accessories. He is surrounded and loved by shakers and movers, beautiful models and socialites, movie stars and celebrities, business icons and royalty. Because of his exposure in Dubai’s social scene and his closeness to a number of influential and A-list personalities, Bong’s life has become very public to many eyes.

“I was very exposed, especially when I was doing the ‘Bong!’ parties,” he admits. “I was Mr. Party for almost three years,” he explains how people have come to know him through his exclusive guest-list entry parties – an elite concept he introduced to Dubai in 2004. His branded parties – named after how people would exaggeratedly call out his name – heated up the city’s social landscape, making him one of, if not THE, pioneer of Dubai’s clubbing scene.

If New York refers to Studio 54 as the golden days of partying, Dubai feels the same towards ‘Bong! Parties.’ “They always remember me with lots of fun and nostalgia. For a lot of people, those were the greatest parties Dubai ever had,” Bong says. ”I was a night owl then. I had an office that I never visited because I slept during the day and worked at night. I was out five times a week. I would bring DJs from Paris, London, Ibiza and we’d have fabulous parties,” he recounts.

Bong knew, however, that he cannot live on parties forever. After three years of late night gimmicks, Bong decided to move from that chapter in his life. “I woke up one day and realized I could not be doing this forever. Besides, the dynamics had changed. All of a sudden, having over 3,000 people in the event became a trend, which was not my kind of thing at all. Don’t get me wrong, I still know how to party, but I just thought it was quite too much. I can do that again but probably on limited editions only.”

The man took a few steps back from the social scene, although he never fully left. He shifted to corporate events, leveraging on the amazing roster of clients and contacts he always had. In fact, long before the legendary shindigs, Bong Guerrero was already respected in the events business particularly in terms of the live concerts, fashion shows and corporate affairs that he conceptualized and produced.

Bong’s epiphany on venturing into events management actually resulted from attending a poorly organized concert staged in Dubai sometime in ‘99. Bong admits that during that period, he was at the crossroads. From owning a perfumery-slash-fashion house for almost six years and stumbling into a momentary career on marketing building materials, Bong always knew that something was missing. He says with a smile, “While scratching my head thinking about what to do in with my career, I thought to myself, after watching the concert, that I can do this, I can do better than this.”

He then found himself flying to Manila and ended up bringing Side A and Gary Valenciano to Dubai. Concerts, one after the other, filled Bong’s busy calendar then.  But it was an invitation to organize the Dianoor Charity Fashion Show, the very first fashion show to be staged at the iconic Burj Al Arab in 2000, that marked his career as a definitive events manager. From then on, his strong portfolio grew to include prestigious clients like Motorola, Virgin Radio, Mini Cooper, Christie’s (auction), Dubai Properties, Pepsi, Puma, Chivas Regal, Rami Al Ali Couture, Aigner Munich, Diesel, Emaar, as well as Splash with their much-anticipated bi-annual fashion shows, to name a few. Bong attributes his success to – “Enjoying the work that I do. I truly love what I do, and I’m very passionate in what I do. I’d like to think that  [passion] brings out some kind of creativity.”

Recently gracing the cover of STYLE VIETNAM, Anna’s love for modeling stems from her love for fashion.  Hence, it was exciting for her to transition into another facet of the industry: from modeling, to model management.

2016 has been a particularly trying year for Anna, as switching from a regular employee to the sole head of a business she now owns has had its highs and lows. However, in light of the many challenges she faces, Anna continues to strive in style, buoyed by the will to achieve her goals. Of what lays ahead for her and her business, Anna shares: “I want my modeling agency to succeed not only in this part of the world but also in Europe and Southeast Asia. I want to provide more work opportunities for my models, artists and talents.”

Spearheading Al Aroosa Aniqah’s creative direction, as Head Couture Designer, Harvey Cenit continues to cement his shining reputation among the well-heeled women of the emirates and the Gulf.  Beyond the region, Harvey has also created extraordinary pieces for international celebrities, including former Miss Universe Catriona Gray.

Harvey considers being included in Illustrado’s 13th-year anniversary issue as one of the highlights of his career this year, apart from being included in the Philippine Independence Day’s showcase. He is also proud to have shared the stage with some of the most esteemed Filipino designed in bridal showcases in the Philippines.

Harvey says that while he is already living his dream, another goal has stemmed from it – that of being able to support Cebuano designers towards success in the international arena.  The designer believes that Cebu Fashion Industry has a lot to offer on a global scale, and its designers deserve to be given a chance to shine internationally. Taking his first step towards this hope, he has moved forward to mentor the new breed of talents from his hometown.

Harvey concludes, “It’s good to have someone on your side that is looking out for your best interests. As your career develops in fashion, a mentor can help you make connections that will lead you even further.”

Harvey Cenit - Most influential Filipinos in the Gulf 2018

When Harvey Cenit showcased his collection in Cebu as the opening act for the prestigious “World Class / Weddings at the Waterfront” show alongside icons Michael Cinco, Ezra Santos, and Furne One – who Harvey says influenced him subliminally throughout his career, it was a tremendous validation that the designer has indeed, entered the big leagues.

Continually delivering exquisite pieces, Harvey’s rise within the highly cut-throat local world of fashion in a mere span of five years since he set foot in the Emirates, is quite impressive.  His penchant for making successfully deliberate choices has definitely set him on a path towards future leadership.  With his elegantly feminine design aesthetic, a good balance between extravagance and restrained class, that’s difficult not to love, Harvey has become the designer of choice for affluent women in the country.  Just recently, Harvey was featured in a Gulf New interview.  He also had the pleasure of dressing up some Filipina muses, including reigning Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, respected indie actress Mercedes Cabral, model Barbie Imperial, and singer Morisette Amon.

Looking forward to an even greater future ahead, Harvey affirms that the importance of being able to experience as many aspects of one’s craft as possible is truly valuable: “Because of my experiences, my ability to learn has also increased. The more I have used them, the less frustrated I have become, and the more rewarding life has become for me. Don’t waste your time learning something you aren’t willing to use in the future. If you’re spending your time and effort on something make sure that, if you get a chance to, you use it.  It’s a beautiful world out there. One must have to believe.”

Harvey Cenit

Fashion Designer

Just over four years in the emirates, at a young age of 29 years old, and yet emerging designer Harvey Cenit is poised to carve a memorable name for himself within the country’s competitive fashion scene.

More than just playing his cards right, Harvey’s got a winning formula for aesthetics that does not come naturally in a region where over-the-top lavishness, often meaning gaudiness, is more the norm than the exception.  His style is that of balance – a delicate tightrope act between classic and contemporary, with one part extravagance, one part elegance, and all parts femininity.

Armed with education in Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines, Harvey has dressed beauty queens, brides and affluent clients including royals, as well as celebrities such as fellow Illustrado 100-lister actor Mercedes Cabral who’s dangerously low plunging neckline Harvey Cenit number caused a paparazzi commotion at the Venice Film Festival a few years ago.

As the Head Designer of fashion house Al Arousa Al Aniqah leading a team of designers and artisans,  Harvey notes how this year has been such a providential time in his career.  “2016 has been the greatest year so far. And it may sound so cliché but it’s all because of the love I have for my craft and everything I do. Every day, I wake up excited to pick that pen up, and let my imagination wander. I treat every dress and gown I make as a work of art. So I make sure I always work hard and do my very best.”

Izhcka Zeta belongs to an exclusive circle of designers who have the distinction of mounting a well-lauded fashion show in the home of haute couture.  His collection “Monarchs of the Opera” was presented at the opening of the International Fashion Week in Paris in September 2018 at La Maison, Champ Elysees.   The designer’s runway debut will always be the defining moment for the eccentric designer who is the Creative Director of renowned UAE atelier Jacy Kay Couture.

Not only bold, and tasteful, but also intellectual, Izhcka’s painstakingly birthed designs always combine a variety of elements, his obsession du jour, melded together beautifully to intentionally form a story.  “I would like to be known as someone who is different – able to create dresses that are unique and varied. Some designers have one distinct look, and while it marks the designer’s identity, it can also become boring and monotonous. I would like to be known as someone who is not inhibited by the limitations and expectations of society or of my own bias.”

He adds, “Filipino designers should be truly competitive, not just inspired by others’ works, but leading and generating original concepts and ideas. There should be something uniquely Filipino embedded in our creations so our identity will not be lost. We should also align with the 2020 of Dubai: driven by technology, language-proficient, and truly competitive. This way, we understand the demands of the market and are equipped with the necessary skills to succeed.”

Francis ‘Izhcka’ Zeta

Fashion Designer

Francis ‘Izhcka’ Zeta will always look back at 2018 as the milestone year which marks his first ever round of rousing applause from none other than the discerning Parisian couture crowd.Ever the eccentric one, Izhcka’s markedly dramatic style is but the tip of the iceberg in comparison to his immense capacity to dream of fantastical concepts and consistently create exceptional pieces that look more like works of art.  Holding off for the longest time from requests for a local gala, those in the know would understand the choice to debut in Paris and not anywhere else, for this designer whose pieces are treasured by the region’s elite.

His collection “Monarchs of the Opera” was presented at the opening of the International Fashion Week in Paris in September at La Maison, Champ Elysees.  For the designer, premiering in the world’s fashion capital was a daunting challenge.  “I needed to think of silhouettes that are not just crystal-embellished. I wanted it to be Parisian: stylish, intellectual, and with an element of surprise at the end. The collection was inspired by the strength and daintiness of butterflies, especially the monarchs which are such regal queens displaying strength and power to command and nurture at the same time.”

Though his hope was personal, the resulting ripples are inevitably shared, “That was a dream that I thought would only remain a dream. To my surprise, and probably everyone else’s, it became a reality. It was one truly applauded show that brought pride to me and to Filipinos.”

Izchka’s urges Filipinos to be equal parts creative and patriotic. “Whatever one creates, make sure the word ‘Filipino’ is carried along with it. My creations have always been characterized by luxury and creativity – and this is what I want everyone to know and realize; that being Filipino is the same as being excellent and creative.”

Francis Izhcka Zeta has crafted a name for himself as one of the UAE’s most sought-after fashion designers. With a skilled eye for intricate and imposing details, his stunning designs enjoy an international clientele, making him a strong sartorial force in the Middle East.

Izhcka attests that the success he has today is the result of constant, unrelenting diligence. He elaborates: “I was a learner. I rarely slept at night without reading and practicing what I read. I asked how to do things. I researched on the trends and what the people in the Gulf desire for their weddings. I went into the tiring but rewarding field of detailed artistry, wherein every nook and corner of the dress has to be taken care of, with no precious stone left unturned, as they say. I realized that when one makes no excuses, then quality shines through in whatever I create.”

His former career as Art Director and Creative Designer for select shows on major networks in the Philippines was illustrious enough on its own, but Izhcka reiterates that it pales in comparison to the moment when he was granted the position of Creative Director for the Emirati brand, Jacy Kay Couture: “It was a complete validation of my hard work as a designer. It is a triumph in itself to be able to make one’s visions a reality.” Of his legacy, he professes: “I would love to be known as somebody who started with only dedication and hard work – someone who was able to hurdle difficulties and attain success despite overwhelming odds. I have nothing against inherited success, but I place more value on achievement that is gained through one’s own effort and discipline.”

Head over to the fabulous Dubai Design District and you will be pleased to note that one of the most prominent fashion spaces is owned and headed by a Filipino – the “One and Only” Furne One, he of the Dubai fashion rock star stature, whose dramatic haute couture extravaganzas are the hottest tickets come fashion season in the city of bling.

From being a Fine Arts student, to winning a fashion design competition in the Philippines, to becoming a mentee of Josie Natori, to having his own haute couture brand worn by international A-list celebrities, and receiving numerous awards, Furne One has steadily built his haute couture career with exacting precision, dogged determination and pure discipline.  He offers advice to would-be designers, “A lot of young designers think that the fashion industry is just about pretty dresses, fabulous parties and being famous. They often forget about the responsibilities that go along with it. The truth is, it’s all about having a clear vision of your aesthetic, good business acumen, hard work and perseverance”.

With his diligence paying off in aces, Furne continues to grow his renowned brand Amato Couture, opening two new spaces at the Dubai Design District this year, while officially launching his pret-a-porter line to provide a more accessible fashion collection for the younger sartorially savvy audience.

He adds, “You need to focus on your goal, work hard and persevere. The only person you have to prove yourself to, is yourself.

If there is one designer in the region who has utilized and championed Filipino design aesthetics to great effect, it is the divine Ezra Santos.  His offering at Fashion Forward’s October 2016 edition with the haute couture reincarnation of the humble ‘banig’ as ‘piece de resistance’ was not only a feat in fashion design and fabrication, but also a triumph of indigenous Filipino artistic sense re-interpreted for the world.

The collection which consisted of stunning, painstakingly hand-woven Filipiniana-esque pieces was an astonishing follow-up to Ezra’s past assemblages featuring refined contemporary creations inspired by the Maria-Clara and terno dresses, not to mention the iconic ‘Imeldific’ butterfly sleeves.

This time around, apart from promoting Filipino culture, which he believes is part of his calling, the designer has also dedicated his show to his artisans, commemorating his atelier’s 12th year anniversary and sharing the glory especially with those who have been there with him from the very beginning.  2016 not only marks a special birthday for his business.  It is also the year when he has finally become sole proprietor for his brand, quite a rare privilege for very few fashion entrepreneurs in the country.

Ezra who is deeply spiritual reflects “This was a year of blessings and breakthroughs and I am very thankful. One reason that has always kept me strong and courageous is knowing that I was never alone in my journey. My best friend, confidant and adviser, our Lord, has always been there.”

Tips and tricks from the Internet’s best Pinoy style savants!

DANAH GUTIERREZ

Editor-In-Chief, Plump.ph

“When I asked my mentor how she’d describe my style, she said, “fancy madam!” I’d like to think I lean towards glamour and young elegance, my influence has always been the 60s and the classy, vintage fashion the era showcased. I can be laid back when I want, but on most days, I really like looking womanly with tasteful accessories. I cannot leave the house without my earrings and Mom’s hand-me-down Rolex watch.”

I’m wearing a black bell-sleeved dress I designed for our collab with Nariz Ong! I love the chic silhouette it creates. I made it a deep V, empire-cut dress because it flatters my body that way. It opens up the neck and it drapes my tummy beautifully.

My nude on nude combo when I watched Cinderella the ballet show at Aliw Theater! I designed my light coat and had it made by Nariz Ong. I love that I can wear it in the tropics because the fabric is very breathable. Its length elongates me and I think it looks effortlessly elegant.

I love this custom dress by Tina Lirag. Its structure and simplicity really brings out my shape, and the way caped sleeves add drama to the whole look. I wore it for our Christmas dinner with my fur vest from Marks and Spencer.

I love my aviator shades from Lily + Olivia. It was sunny day but the winds were cold so I wore my Debenhams trench coat with a striped turtle neck for a classy, polished look.

Fashion Designer

What role does fashion play in your daily life?
It plays a huge role. For one, fashion is my line of work. But more importantly, it is my medium of expression. I use it to define and present myself to the world. It is a manifestation of my individuality. It’s as essential as eating and breathing to me.

Do you consider the regular you a fashionable person?
No. Stylish? Yes. Artistic? Yes. But I wouldn’t use the term “fashionable,” because it implies that I am devoted to trends. Trends come and go, but style and art are forever. I do not want to be limited by what the industry defines as “hip” and “in the now.” I prefer to be free to express myself, the way I see fit.

What do u typically wear daily?
I have a very unorthodox sense of style, so it’s quite hard for me to find ready-to-wear clothes that jive perfectly with my aesthetics. So instead of buying clothes, I make them myself – at least most of the time, especially for important social gatherings. Feeling ko tanggal ang worries at stress ko kapag nakakapag-outfit ako.

What is your fashion philosophy?
I believe that fashion has to be daring. It takes courage to go out of convention, buck the norms, and provoke change. If it’s not pushing the standards in any way, it’s not really fashion.

What role does fashion play in your daily life?

As a designer, being one with Dubai’s high fashion and haute couture community is important to me, not just for my professional career, but also for inspiring the way I run my daily life. Kailangan lagi akong couture. It’s not just a label to me. It’s a mindset. It’s a value that I live everyday. It helps me maintain my status, and my waistline! But style and aesthetics notwithstanding, my strong set of morals defines my existence. I’m just glad that I am able to translate this level of integrity to my work. They call me klassista. For me, dapat palagi class lang.

What do you typically wear daily? What are your favorite things to wear?

Fashion is my life. This has always been the case with me. I can’t remember a time when fashion figured low on my priorities. To me, I look at it as if I am always on the runway, 24-7. I love black. I love timeless pieces. I will not be caught dead looking uncoordinated. Some people may call it “safe.” I think it’s about being put-together well, and having a sense of elegant order – think Jackie O! Suffice it to say, I cannot go out wearing a top with an abstract print. Mamatay ako! Photo by Jef Anog Bandoix Fashion Designer
What is your fashion philosophy?
Fashion is my existence. I will live, eat, and breathe fashion to the very end. That’s really the best way to think about it: fashion as a long-term commitment. Planado na nga na pag namatay ako, everyone who wants to attend my mourning must be wearing black or else they wont get a pass to see my urn jar!
